Information and Conditions forming the Counselling Contract

  • I am a Senior Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their 'Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy' and their 'Professional Conduct Procedure'.
  • I am an Accredited member of the Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling (FPC) and abide by their Code of Practice and Ethics and their complaints procedure.
  • For reasons of medical responsibility I ask your permission to contact your General Practitioner to advise them at the start of your counselling.
  • Confidentiality is maintained and my work is supervised in accordance with the guidelines given by the BACP. Only possible exceptions to confidentiality may be: harm to self or others and requirement of law.
  • Sessions are 50 minutes in length and take place at the same time on the same day each week.
  • I offer once-weekly, ongoing Counselling sessions. In some instances I may offer twice-weekly sessions and this would be discussed.
  • Missed and cancelled sessions will be charged for, except in the instance where I cancel a session.
  • When adequate notice of cancellation has been given I will try to offer an alternate session time within the same week where possible, however sessions cannot be carried over from one week to the next.
  • I would like one month's notice of termination of counselling; this will not apply during the first two months of counselling although some notice may still be advisable to give an opportunity to discuss any difficulties associated with starting and terminating counselling.
  • I will adjust my fees annually in September. Requests for concessionary fees will be discussed and considered upon merit.

If at the Initial Session it is agreed that ongoing counselling will be embarked upon; this will form the basis of our working contract.
